Florida Boy’s Best Sushi on 30A

This one goes out to all my clients who love sushi and want the best places to enjoy it around 30A. As always, I’m Captain Hunter Ray, your favorite inshore fishing guide and I don’t take these recommendations lightly. So many clients ask for my advice when it comes to dining, activities, where to stay and all things 30A. Whether you’ve been out on the water with me or are just craving some top-notch sushi, these spots are sure to impress. Let’s dive in and discover a few local sushi gems.

The Bay

$$

Perched on the edge of Choctawhatchee Bay, The Bay is a low key spot and a local’s favorite with a view that’s hard to beat. So many people vacationing on 30A don’t venture out of their neighborhood, but this is one you’re gonna want to try if you haven’t.  The waterfront setting provides a stunning backdrop, especially during sunset. The Bay combines Southern coastal cuisine with Asian influences, and their sushi is no exception. After a long day on the water, I enjoy winding down here with their impeccably fresh sushi. The laid-back atmosphere, complete with flip flop friendly chairs in the sand, deck seating and string lights makes it a perfect spot to relax and soak in the moment with your crew.

Captain’s Pick: The “Mr. Billy Roll” – yellowfin tuna, tempura crunch, topped with spicy tuna and green onion. A true explosion of flavors that will leave you thinking about it even after dinner.

Farm & Fire

$$

Situated at North Beach on the Bay, Farm & Fire offers a rustic charm with delicious sushi creations upstairs. The ambiance here is a mix of rustic and chic, with wooden accents a bit of an industrial vibe and  warm, inviting atmosphere. Their menu offers wood-fired pizzas, seafood and the best of land and sea, including a variety of sushi, nigiri and sashimi that appeals to both purists and those looking for a unique twist. It’s an ideal spot for a date-night dinner or a gathering with friends, where you can enjoy the picturesque views of the bay. Because it’s on the west side of the bridge, this is a better sunset view than The Bay, but both are great.

Captain’s Pick: The “Yellowstone Roll” – grilled tenderloin, tempura fried onions, cucumber, avocado, and fire sauce. 100% worth a try if you haven’t had this or like a non-seafood roll.

Basmati’s

$$$

For an upscale experience, head to Basmati’s in Blue Mountain Beach. This elegant eatery has been around for ages and is set in a charming, old Florida-style cottage, offering an intimate dining experience. The woodsy setting, complete with lush gardens and a koi pond, creates a tranquil atmosphere perfect for an elevated night out. The sushi here is crafted with precision and care, ensuring every bite is a memorable one. The sophisticated ambiance and exceptional sushi make it worth every penny, perfect for celebrating a special occasion or indulging in a night of luxury.

Captain’s Pick: The “Gulf Roll” – crab, avocado, topped with seared tuna and a tangy ponzu sauce. This roll epitomizes coastal sophistication.

Shaka

$$

Located in Inlet Beach, Shaka Sushi and Noodle Bar is known for its fresh, delectable sushi. The interior is vibrant and modern, with surfboards adorning the walls, giving it a fun and laid-back vibe. It’s a great spot to unwind with friends after a long day of beach activities. The menu is diverse, featuring both traditional and inventive sushi rolls, ensuring there’s something for everyone. The fun and relaxed atmosphere make it an ideal spot to enjoy with friends, where you can share a few laughs and some excellent sushi.

Captain’s Pick: The “Shaka Roll” – spicy salmon, cucumber, topped with avocado and mango. This roll is a refreshing wave of flavor that will keep you coming back.

Aja

$$

Nestled in the corner of 30Avenue, Aja offers a delightful sushi experience with a side of people-watching. The stylish, modern décor creates a chic and lively atmosphere, perfect for a night out. The sushi here is nice, with a focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. For those on the east end of 30A, this is another good option, making it a hotspot for both locals and visitors alike.

Captain’s Pick: The “Tsunami Roll” – tempura shrimp, crab salad, topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. It’s a tidal wave of taste worth savoring.

Old Florida Fish House

$$

Situated in Seagrove Beach, Old Florida Fish House is a beloved local spot with a long-standing reputation for quality. I’ve been going here since I had my first-ever sushi roll. While they offer a variety of seafood dishes, their sushi is a hidden treasure that shouldn’t be missed. The restaurant has a casual, family-friendly vibe, with indoor and outdoor seating options overlooking Eastern Lake. It’s a great place to bring the whole crew, enjoy some live music, and feast on an impressive sushi selection.

Captain’s Pick: The “Emerald Coast Roll” – spicy tuna, cucumber, topped with yellowtail and jalapeno slices. This roll captures the essence of the Gulf with a spicy kick.

So, next time you’re meandering around 30A with a craving for sushi, anchor at one of these fantastic spots. Trust Captain Hunter Ray—these picks are the real deal!
